The Striker team seems to have a handbook on creating fun hangouts. After sweeping Gurgaon’s earliest brewery wave, they’ve gone on to open a bunch of different winners ranging from Soi 7 to Adda. The one that started it all though is this music-centric venue that has managed to keep its bearings through packed weekends and competitor Manhattan opening right across from them. The space has a casual air about it that’s hard to beat with a small stage that showcases young as well as established bands. Much like its younger cousin, Soi, Striker too is a great neighbourhood pub with fresh beer rather than just a microbrewery. The rock wall etched with names of musical greats like Duran Duran, Rolling Stones, Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin as well as the vinyl record studded bar set the mood. The dampener, if any, comes from the dwindling quality of their 4 brews with a somewhat watered down taste creeping in sometimes. That being said, their low calorie beers named after music genres include the fast moving Weiss Blues as well as Rock Bock — a full-bodied malty beer full of bitter hops. Newbie Mariachi Maize, which is the first corn beer we’ve tasted in Gurgaon, also grows on you quickly. Cocktails like the Bull Frog are a weak spot, but the bar is happy to make tweaks. Snacks traverse Indian, Chinese and global favourites with everything from Salt n Pepper Chicken to Dahi Ke Kebab. Tuesdays are Ladies Night and Monday has unlimited beer deals for just Rs 495.
