Summer House Cafe

For a bar that already caters to a bulk of the spillover from traffic riddled HKV and has a kickass gig roster of its own, Chris Martin’s impromptu performance news has only helped Summer House’s cause. Though it’s not been good for regulars, like me, who now have to contend with wall-to-wall crowds even on weekdays. The original idea of staying close enough but still outside the village has since caught on with other bars and the same team has also launched the neighbouring Bandstand. Situated in a huge space atop Aurobindo Market in place of a forgotten Indian restaurant, Summer House’s wooden structure gives the place certain warmth, made better with some plush couches here and there. Even though the outdoor area makes a great first impression, you haven’t really soaked in the experience till you get to their rooftop, which is a mini-venue in its own right. Downstairs – with its mini stage – is all about the music with great EDM, techno and dance gigs on most weekends. The menu has recently been updated, but is still quite extensive stocking everything you could possibly want. If you aren’t a beer or vodka OJ type, try the interesting Margarita with Clove and Pineapple or the delicious Juniper Pimms that is summer in a glass. Their signature range lets you choose a drink and match it with homemade syrup to create something new, but the bartenders always seem hassled, which is why we like placing quick orders. If you find room to stand around, top picks to line the stomach should be their platters heaped with fried foods or mezze. Word of advice – make sure you wear comfortable shoes and are ready to dance! Critic reviews are anonymous and all bills are paid by What#39;s Hot.
