3 Literary Festivals In Delhi

Come January and the city’s literature scene starts heating up. Of course, the excitement over Jaipur Lit Fest has a lot to do with that, but Delhi also has it’s own varied festivals celebrating the written word. We’ve narrowed down the 3 you can attend this month.  Delhi Literature Festival The 4th Delhi Literature Festival (DLF) is going to be three-days long and will see panel discussions, book readings, book launches, workshops, performances, speaker events, poetry, theatre, cinema and more. Director Supriya Suri and Nasir Jamal along with Founder Director Bharti Bharagava work towards promoting young and aspiring writers, authors, journalists, and students trying to preserve the art and  culture of the city. The first day will have interesting sessions like Trends in Publishing – How To Get Published moderated by Kunal Gupta along with panelist Debashree Rakshit, Vaishali Mathur, Ajay Mago and Anuj Bahri. Plus, watch out for a music performance by Aanch.  Richa Anirudh’s session on Populism of Poetry will see Dr. Kumar Vishwas chatting with her, and the events will conclude with Rediscovery of India – A Tribute to Pandit Nehru moderated by eminent journalist Barkha Dutt. The New Delhi World Book Fair (NDWBF) has been one of the most popular events for literary minds and bookworms alike. Organised by the National Book Trust, the fair gives an opportunity to both publishers and authors to do business, while readers gets launches, book readings and discounted works. China will be the Guest of Honour country this year and the 9-day event will also see Iran bringing its books along with participants from Spain, Pakistan, France, Germany, Nepal, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Turkey, Poland and more. Expect books from all languages, countries, and genres like crime, self-help, mythology, spirituality, religion, poetry and more. The 11th and 12th are booked for New Delhi Rights Table – a platform for publishers to meet each other, present their products and ideas and grow their business. The second edition will feature the best crime writers of the country on the same platform as budding writers, who can get a taste of how to improve and propagate the craft. The Crime Writers Association Of South Asia was launched at JLF in 2014, and will open this year at Alliance Francaise De Delhi with screening of films like Yeh Raaste Hain Pyaar Ke, The French Connection and others curated by Kaushik Bhaumik. The action shifts to Oxford Bookstore on day two and three, which will include a welcome speech by Priti Paul, opening remarks by Namita Gokhale and an inaugural speech by Lady Kishwar Desai.
