The city’s indie music scene is thriving like never before and packing in that potential into a week-long fest is The Gig Week. What started off as a series of gigs curated by a bunch of enthusiastic college students in 2011 has grown into a much-awaited annual event, which is now in its fifth year. This edition  brings together about 21 artists from across the country performing at 7 different venues starting December 13th. WHAT TO EXPECT TGW has a simple premise at its core – it seeks to give the scene a push or a gentle nudge, if you will –while giving the audience an opportunity to watch their favourite artists. As team director Anubhav Gupta points out, “In essence, the fest is like a live playlist of artists we like to listen to. You can expect a mix of headlining acts and local upcoming artists, but we want the spirit to stay true to indie.” The “genre-agnostic” festival promises over 20 intimate gigs at venues across Hauz Khas Village, Nehru Place, Aurobindo Market and SDA. Each day will see about 3 to 4 performances, and the event will kick off with an invite-only party on December 13th at the newly opened Bandstand in Aurobindo Market with sets by Shibzoid (city-based electronic act) and Tarqeeb (city-based drum and bass act) followed by a surprise act. Psst: we hear there’s an open bar too, so follow them here to win invites. On December 15th, the action shifts to AntiSocial at HKV where October (city-based rock band), Artillerie (local thrash metal act) and Bhayanak Maut (Mumbai metal band) will play loud with an entry charge of Rs 300 per person. The rest of the week will see free gigs by artists like Madboy/Mink, Chayan Smiti, Tejas Menon, Tankbund, Bombay Bassment and many more at venues such as Piano Man Jazz Club (Dec 16th), Summer House Café (Dec 17th), Fio Cookhouse (Dec 18th) and Bandstand (Dec 19th). The fest ends on December 20th with a carnival sundowner complete with art installations and chilled-out jams by Prateek Kuhad, Run! It’s The Kid and Voctronica. There’s an entry charge of Rs 300, but we’re told that you can avail of special discounts on FB at the top-secret venue, that may or may not be a brand new place with a beautiful courtyard near HKV. In more scoops, plans are afoot to take the fest to another city pretty soon, so watch this space. When: December 13th to 20th, 8.30 pm onwards (7 pm onwards on closing day) Where: Multiple venues Entry: Free at most venues and Rs 300 at others For complete schedule and more details, click here
