If you’ve seen Leonardo DiCaprio as Jordan Belfort in Wolf of Wall Street, you might have imagined that all stock brokers lead a thrilling life. While that’s not entirely true, bars inspired by that format are certainly exciting our wallets, and bringing a slice of the exchange to Delhi is this new café and bar that opens over the next weekend. Here’s an exclusive sneak peek.
AMBIENCE
A tiny set of stairs in the Outer Circle lead you to this mammoth space with muted wooden giant tables and TV screens. Walk around the 130-seater and you spot a map of CP, another wall with murals depicting a day at the exchange, a C-shaped bar right opposite a grand DJ console and an open space that is a seating area by day and dance floor by night. There’s also a VIP area for private parties. Café Dalal Street is certainly not cliched and you can soon expect Latino nights with dance lessons where you can pick up a move or two.
FOOD + DRINKS
The drinks are put together as chips – some go up on the exchange where prices will fluctuate and the premium ones are added as blue chips i.e. their prices remain the same. So you get a – Jack Daniels Silver Select (Rs 395), Glenfiddich 18 (Rs 695) and Belvedere (Rs 245). Besides this, there’s a large drinks menu with several signatures and a bartender who’s going to fix you any drink the way you like it. We loved the vodka-based The Wolf Punch (Rs 395) which has a fruity mix of apple vinegar, orange, strawberry and clove and Invested (Rs 395) with gin, berries and cardamom. If you like a drink that is strong and kickass then ask for a Sour Transaction (Rs 495) that#39;s got bourbon and cinnamon.
At first, the food menu seems to have a bit of everything, but a closer look tells you they’ve ensured all the bar food an average Joe wants with his drink – kebabs, pizzas, chicken wings, dumplings – is in there. The team has also kept smokers in mind and all snacks come in easy-to-carry trays, so you can easily move around the bar.
Of the lot, we tried the Hara Bhara Kebab (Rs 225), Tandoori Bharva Mushroom (Rs 225) and Mutton Galouti (Rs 325). The kebabs were soft and full of flavour and the mushrooms had a wonderful tandoori aftertaste along with a secret filling, which made it our top snack. Next to arrive were crumb fried Jalapeno Poppers (Rs 165) with tangy salsa and Slow Fried Chicken (Rs 205). While the former was cheesy and comforting, the latter was just what we all need with our beer – juicy and greasy chicken. However, what knocked us out was their in-house special of Butter Chicken Gol Gappe (Rs 195). We know that may sound like an odd combo, but one has to eat it to believe it! We guarantee this one’s going to be ordered on all the tables.
