Busy figuring out your end of the year plans? Well, there’s no reason the rest of the month has to be boring, especially with the city buzzing with so many interesting events. We’ve picked some of the most interesting things happening through December, so you can book your tickets now and make it a fantastic lead up to NYE!
JAZZ UTSAV
Jazz seems to be the flavour of the season on the Delhi gig scene and bringing together a fantastic line-up is Jazz Utsav. The two-day fest promises the best of jazz from both India and abroad with headliners like Rudresh Mahanthappa#39;s Gamak (USA) and Artur Dudkiewicz Trio (Poland). While Mahanthappa is an acclaimed saxophonist with 14 stellar albums to his credit, Poland’s Artur Dutkiewicz is a known face on the global jazz scene.
Other performers include The Woodstock Jazz Band (Woodstock School, Mussoorie), Swedish pianist and his collective Joel Lyssarides Trio, Mumbai-based pianist Karim Ellaboudi who will be performing with ace vocalist Vasundhara Vee, and Pune guitarist Derek Julien who will be performing with Roger Dragonette on bass, Adil Batliwala on keyboard and Trilok Gurtu on percussions.

ABHIMANYU
If Delhi has anything that comes close to New York’s Broadway shows, it’s Kingdom of Dreams’ larger-than-life musical shows and after Jhumroo and Zangoora, their team is back with a brand new musical. Called Abhimanyu, it’s the story of an Indian classical dancer who is taken to America by a Broadway dancer and the journey through his success, failures and final redemption.
The music for the show has been given by Deepak Pandit and Sandeep Mahavir with songs sung by Shankar Mahadevan, Daler Mehndi and Udit Narayan among others.
When: December 6th, 2.30 pm

EK MULAQAAT
The first in Director Saif Hyder Hasan’s proposed trilogy of plays centered on unfulfilled love, Ek Mulaqaat has been inspired by the story of famous poets Amrita Pritam and Sahir Ludhianvi. Starring Shekhar Suman and Deepati Naval as the protagonists, the play deals with the unfulfilled love between these two. On a cold Delhi evening, the two meet and talk about a life that they could have had together.
When: December 10th, 5.30 pm and 8 pm onwards

MLTR: LIVE IN CONCERT
Remember your teenage days when Paint My Love and Someday were all the rage? Take a trip down memory lane with Michael Learns To Rock’s live concert. The band, which will soon be in India for a four-city tour, was hugely popular back in the ‘90s and they won a number of awards including the SEA Grammy Awards. A pop/soft rock band from Denmark, MLTR mostly performs in English and they released their last studio album titled Scandinavia in 2012.

THE GIG WEEK
The Gig Week began back in 2011 as a way to promote indie music, and since then it has become a much looked-forward-to festival for enthusiasts. In their past editions, they’ve had performances by homegrown artists like FuzzCulture, Shantanu Pandit, Raagleela and Kamakshi Khanna and have also consistently provided a stage for upcoming musicians to showcase their music.
This year too, the performances will be spread over an entire week. The line-up and other details have yet to be finalised, so check back here for updates. We suggest you keep your calendar free and gear up for seven music soaked days!

DASTANGOI
Dastangoi, the Urdu art form of oral storytelling, was revived in India in 2005 and this month, Habitat World will be celebrating 10 years of that occasion with a three-day festival. Noted director and one of the foremost proponents of dastangoi, Mahmood Farooqui will be presenting two of his productions Dastan-e-Amir Hamza and Dastan-e-Partition. There will also be something for the children on the third and final day of the festival with Dastan-e-Alice – the story of Alice In Wonderland using dastangoi.

THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES
Whether you are a theatre fan or not, chances are you must have heard of The Vagina Monologues. Written by Eve Ensler, the play is a global phenomenon and one of the most popular theatrical productions of all time.
This month, you can watch Mahabanoo Mody-Kotwal and Kaizaad Kotwal’s adaptation of The Vagina Monologues starring famous theatre personalities like Dilnaz Irani and Mona Ambedgaonkar. The drama cum comedy is a blend of several stories, all told by different women, with each promising to open the audience’s eyes to a new theme.

DISNEY#39;S BEAUTY AND THE BEAST
Beauty And The Beast premiered on Broadway back in the #39;90s and since then, it has travelled all over the world. This is the first time the Broadway-style musical has come to India and after a successful run in Mumbai, the show will be travelling to the Capital now. Dazzling costumes, fantastic songs, gravity-defying aerial stunts and a prologue by Amitabh Bachchan means this one promises a lot. Book your tickets asap, because it#39;s definitely a once-in-a-lifetime kind of experience.
