The Japan Foundation, New Delhi presents Performing Folk Art - Shishi Odori (Japanese Deer Dance), a live performance and lecture. The evening brings the local folk art form that is still prevelant in the Tohoku region, Japan. Shishi Odori is a ritualistic dance art, performed at different occasions, such as requiem, memorial service for ancestral spirits, or in order to purify evil spirits, or sometimes in expression of gratitude for an abundant harvest. The evening will be graced by Gyozan School Maikawa Shishi Odori group that shall perform in their style of Drum Dance, with Koichi Sato, Shutaro Koiwa, Takeshi Yoshida and Kosuke Hachiya as the key dancers.
