Delhi has always been big on food, but lately, we have also found a penchant for comedy and love to get punned at and laugh raucously at inane jokes at our favourite watering hole or eatery. Pushing the envelope further (or maybe completely) is a Mumbai import that dedicates an entire space to the genre and artists – along with great grub and kickass cocktails. Don’t believe us? WHAT IS IT
The People Co offer a comedy club, restaurant and bar all in one space. At Canvas, one can enjoy roaring performances of stand-up comedy, musicals and plays. Running houseful mostly, this 220-seater space is a much improvised version of the Canvas Laugh Club in Mumbai, with a slew of some of the country’s biggest artists on the bill each night from 7 pm onwards. Grab a few cocktails and some quick snacks at the bar aka Public while you wait for the show to begin. The restaurant Plate is currently a WIP but plays great foot-stomping music and has a small stage for bands to play. Expect more deets soon.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Walk into this huge extension of the Cyber Hub promenade and settle down by the bar. The wooden interiors are offset by copper and leather touches. The warehouse minimalism is outdone by helpful and warm staff. While they’re still ironing out their licenses, the bar is set to serve refreshing cocktails soon, while the restaurant will offer a buffet lunch – we loved their pizzas and dim sum – to go with an afternoon comedy show, so stop by if you’re working in the area and need a bit of a breather. While here, you can also pick up a few Ha Ha merchandise including t-shirts, glasses and pouches.
Down the corridor, past the Wall of Fame, is the comedy club that’s decked out like an old school theatre. The seating is clutter-free with few tables up front next to the stage and parallel rows at the end. There’s a small bar tucked in a corner here as well, along with a menu from which you can get munchies like popcorn, nachos, fries with dip, sushi or meal boxes that have got a burger with some salad and potatoes wedges delivered to your seat. What better way to unwind than with a few drinks, yummy treats and a whole lot of laughs, eh?
