Ever looked at your wardrobe and wondered why there isn’t enough room even though you swear you have nothing to wear? There are so many pieces we all hoard that we’ve either outgrown or are no longer fond of wearing, but we still have a hard time letting go of them. Here’s where we step in and tell you that there’s actually a world of good that can come of hand-me-downs. Take your pick from one of these NGOs that accept gently worn clothes and see your contribution make someone in need smile.
Uday Foundation
Founded in 2007, this organisation believes in health with dignity and has been working extensively for the homeless, survivors of natural disasters and children with special medical requirements. In the past, they’ve also partnered with various hospitals in a bid to benefit thousands of urban slum dwellers and those living in rural areas by setting up health camps. The foundation accepts donations of clothes among other necessities to their pursuit of helping those in need. Currently they are working in Delhi NCR, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, major parts of Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Orissa.
What They Accept: Clothes for children, women and men for all age groups

Pahel
Conceptualised in 2004 and implemented two years later, Pahel comprises of professionals from different walks of life who believe in creating sustainable livelihoods throughout our rural areas. The NGO works in areas of education, health and hygiene, and also organises regular camps in neighbourhood slums to give them clothes and other supplies. They will arrange for free pick up of donations even more convenient for you.

Goonj
A little extra effort is all it takes and Goonj certainly has reached out to all of us urban youth with its powerful voice for change. The NGO has had an impressive reach both in villages as well cities with more than 1500 development activities under their Cloth For Work program, where people receive clothes and other materials in exchange for work that ranges from repairing roads, recharging water ponds, building bamboo bridges to digging wells. Goonj currently does work in 21 states and even the union territory of Puducherry. They do not pick up donations, but have various drop off centres across Delhi NCR.
What They Accept: Wearable and washed material, neatly sealed and labeled in cartons and bags

Clothes Box Foundation
Idling time on Facebook is something we all do, but what if we told you that some good could come off from your unending hours spent online? The unique concept of Clothes Box Foundation – a brainchild of Saajan Abrol and Naman Ahluwalia – ensures just that. Initiated in 2014, this one of a kind endeavour has already met with huge success, with Amitabh Bachchan as one of their biggest advocates. The organisation believes in the policy of transparency and takes a lot of care to keep their donors updated with their donations end up. So you will be notified of each and every article of clothing that you give away. All you need to do is drop in a message on their Facebook page and they will take care of the rest!
What They Accept: Clothes in good condition
