The boys from Philadelphia will be coming home to India and music lovers are bound to have a field day. We are talking about Penn Masala, the very first South Asian A Cappella Group in the world. This ensemble of gifted musicians was formed with the intention of capturing the experience of growing up with both Western and Eastern musical traditions.
The group currently comprises of 15 members, namely Chetan Khanna, Prashant Ramesh, Anil Chitrapu, Aneesh Kanakamedala, Pranay Sharma, Brendan McManus, Hari Ravi, Kashish Hora, Praveen Rajaguru, Nikhil Raman, Yamir Tainwala, Vishnu Rachakonda, Rudrajit (Wrik) Sinha, Atman Panigrahi and Sanjit Chakravarty. The play world music and are known for their English mashups that blend in Western pop tracks with Eastern melodies to make never heard before harmonies.
Honours include performing at the White House for President Obama and also, Indian International Film Academy (IIFA) Awards. Their tracks have been featured in Hollywood film Pitch Perfect.
They will be performing at Hard Rock Cafe, Bangalore during their 5 city tour of India this summer. The band will now be playing at Farzi Café to get you grooving and how!
