The play is a the story of the pimp Trampagos who is mourning the loss of his best prostitute Pericona to syphilis. Other women come to him to replace Pericona, despite knowing the fact of her death as the merits of working with Trampagos outweigh the risks. When he chooses one of them and decides to marry her, a hardened criminal who is a contemporary of Trampagos returns from the prison and tries to obstruct the marriage.
