If 2015 was about turning vegetarian, this year is all about understanding your body better and picking ingredients that love you back. So if you’ve been ODing on greasy takeout or been eating indulgent meals, the Smoke House Deli team has the remedy. They understand our predicament and have added an extensive healthy menu that you can gorge on sans the guilt.
SHD#39;s menu has always been a crowd pleaser with options to customise. So when the kitchen started getting repeated requests from lactose intolerant and gluten-sensitive guests for alternatives to their favourite dishes, they decided to create a special menu. The healthy menu pans across courses and is being rolled out nationally, catering to diners with special dietary needs as well as those who just want to eat clean.
Loaded with millets, red rice, kafir milk, substitute flours, amaranth and other super foods – this one is a delight for weight watchers. We started off with a thick and creamy bowl of Kale and Millet Soup (Rs 240) topped with roasted red rice and fresh kale that added a generous crunch to the mix. The page long salad list is a delicious read with the Bean Sprouts and Crispy Quinoa with Brown Rice Flakes (Rs 380) that came in a big wooden bowl being our top pick. The salad was loaded with sunflower seeds, carrot ribbons and dressed with guava reduction that gave it a sweet aftertaste.
The pastas too have undergone a makeover and are even gluten free. We opted for the Jowar Gnocchi (Rs 450) that was served with an earthy mushroom fricassee sauce and parmesan crisp, but what impressed us the most was the Grilled Vegetable Ravioli (Rs 470) resplendent in coconut and soya milk sauce.
For AM treats, the Eggs Benedict (Rs 510) with smoked salmon now use fat-free hollandaise and gluten free bread, while the Millet Upma (Rs 230) with grilled vegetables and greens is a wholesome treat. There are sandwiches and desserts on the menu too, which we’ll be returning to sample soon.
