In the land of aplenty, the one thing you can be sure of is hassle free, quick food that arrives hot at your doorstep. But our delivery series isn’t about retail chains or QSR formats that churn out regular fare, rather about dedicated options that will look after you from AM to PM.
MORNING HIT – BREAKFASTBAY
The toughest and yet the most underrated market to tap into is the early eaters. Breakfast isn’t typically on the agenda of urban couples or singles rushing to make it through the daily commute, but startups like the app first BreakfastBay make ordering a smooth process with delivery to your office or home.
They have a fixed menu for the entire week featuring one dish each in a mini (Rs 40) or full (Rs 69) format that comes with a calorie count. So you could order a la carte till Friday on the previous Sunday or go for weekly (Rs 299 for 5 meals) as well as monthly (Rs 1,299 for 22 meals) subscriptions. The food itself is homely and nutritious, and the dishes change daily with some popular ones being repeated. We ordered on two separate occasions and found the food to be packed well, hot and satiating. The Idli Sambhar with Coconut Chutney had soft fluffy idlis and generous tangy sambhar, while the Classic Poha with Sprouted Moong Beans was generously topped with roasted peanuts and reminded us of mom’s cooking. Portions are decent and can tide you till lunchtime.
The serviced areas are limited, but being added to constantly. If you don’t wish to clutter your phone with another app, they also have a Google form, but we found the app a more viable solution.

QUICK LUNCH – FRESHLER
An uninspiring name, but a great product. Freshler is a fairly recent addition that can please multiple buckets – healthy, home food cravings, value for money and even off-time cravings. We found them on a cold winter evening when a sick partner needed some warm Chicken Soup and they delivered it quickly.
The website is pretty easy to use, though we haven’t checked out their app yet. Basically, you pick a location and delivery time before reaching the menu. There’s a minimum purchase assigned to each area, so check that on the right hand corner before you fill up the cart. The dishes are definitely fresh, which you can tell from the crunch of the lettuce in the Chicken Caesar Salad (Rs 230) to the softness of the buns in the Aloo Anarkali Burger (Rs 150). Our favourites included their Chicken Roulade Salad (Rs 220) that comes with an abundance of juicy chicken as well as the Grilled Fish Fillet (Rs 360) bursting with flavour and yet light on the waistline, though they also have humbler fare like Desi Dal Tadka with Rice (Rs 140) that we haven’t gotten around to trying out just yet.
The places they cover for delivery is extensive, the serving sizes are pretty good and the pricing competitive. The team also scribbles appetite-boosting messages on the boxes, making things more personalised.

GUILTFREE DINNER – TWIGLY
From the uncomplicated logo to the cheery interface and the drool worthy pictures, Twigly is currently our preferred app for quick fixes. The menu changes frequently with new options every day although base dishes remain the same. Available as both an app and a website, the former is a better option since their push notification always tells us about the great stuff the kitchen is churning out.
The menu can be tweaked based on 4 parameters: #veg, #non-veg, #sandwich and #
